Familiar Faces
The paintings in Familiar Faces are spontaneous. They started as a daily art practice in play. I wanted to experiment with color and form, and the resulting portraits range from comical and joyful to dark and moody. To make them, I deconstruct and reassemble celebrities, models, and photo journalistic subjects. They become ordinary people; they are mixed ethnicities, mixed genders, mixed ages, mixed sizes, and mixed classes. They are all of us.
